The ‘Glorious Twelfth’ refers to Red Grouse hunting season in Britain, it begins on August 12th every year.
Rules is incredibly old fashioned it feels and looks like a gentleman’s club, but that’s the point. They expect you to be there for a few hours, having no stupid time limit on your meal. The staff are polite, knowledgeable about the menu and very formal.
The Grouse was very tasty it came with a Madeira, bread and berry sauce as well as a thin gravy. It was served with a nice liver pate and I don’t know why but a basket made of crisps.
The desserts were ok, we had the Raspberry Syllabub and Apple and Blackberry Crumble, old fashioned and too sweet. All in all a good experience.
